The Job Summary
MaintStar’s state and local government sales team is a small group of dynamic, goal-focused, and experienced sales professionals with backgrounds in multiple industries. We look for people who show initiative, strategic thinking, and a strong command of government customers and the environments they operate in. As a smaller, fully-remote company, our sales team wears many hats that go beyond identifying and closing deals – we need sales professionals who can build and maintain deep customer relationships within their regions and manage the sales funnel from end-to-end. Our sales cycles are long and aligned to government budget cycles, so patience and consistency are key.
What You’ll Do
- Build new business and grow our footprint within your eight-state regional territory.
- Work closely with the marketing team to keep a steady flow of qualified leads moving through the pipeline, including leads generated from tradeshow appearances and marketing campaigns.
- Help prospects understand what we do and why it matters, with a focus on real outcomes—not just features.
- Identify opportunities to team up with marketing partners and pursue deals together when it makes sense.
- Be the customer’s main point of contact with MaintStar, acting as their lifecycle account manager.
- Guide prospects through the buying process, answering questions and helping them make confident decisions.
- Put together and execute a sales plan that keeps you on track to meet—and exceed—your targets.
- Get a solid understanding of each customer organization’s operational, business, and technical needs so you can recommend the right MaintStar suites and modules.
- Deliver tailored demos and presentations that show how MaintStar can improve how governments serve their communities.
- Work with internal teams to build strong, relevant proposals.
- Manage the full sales cycle for your region, from prospecting through close, including pipeline tracking, forecasting, and contract negotiation.
- Follow up on both inbound and self-sourced leads so opportunities don’t stall or slip through the cracks.
- Share what you’re hearing in the market to help shape sales strategy and positioning.
- Keep Salesforce up to date with accurate notes, activities, and deal progress.
- Report on performance and pipeline each quarter, including what’s working, what’s not, and where you see opportunities.
You’ll Be a Great Fit If You
- Know how to find and close opportunities. You’re comfortable prospecting on your own, following up consistently, and carrying deals through to the finish line—whether that starts with an email or a conversation in the field.
- Actually use your CRM. You’re fluent in Salesforce. You keep your pipeline organized, your notes up to date, and you don’t rely on memory to manage deals.
- Can handle a full plate. Things move quickly, customer priorities shift, and you’re able to stay focused without letting opportunities drop. We’re a smaller company, without a huge sales enablement and support engine; individual initiative and organization is key.
- Stay focused on results without losing sight of the customer. You care about hitting your numbers, but not at the expense of doing right by the client.
- Understand the basics of government budget cycles and decision processes. You can work through multi-stakeholder environments, build consensus, and keep deals moving even when things get complicated. You are comfortable with long sales cycles and the unique challenges in creating and managing those deals. Experience in the state and local government verticals is a big plus.
- Like solving real problems. You ask good questions, listen closely, and focus on helping organizations work through challenges—not just selling software. You demonstrate a focused, hunter mentality but are curious and coachable when it comes to new challenges.
- Take a practical, relationship-first approach to sales. You communicate clearly, build trust over time, and keep the focus on what matters to the client.
- Are comfortable using technology to do your job better. Whether it’s CRM, sales tools (GovSpend experience is a plus), AI support, or research, you use what’s available to stay efficient and informed.
- Can make a strong, clear case for change. You’re able to explain value in a way that resonates and helps prospects move forward with confidence.
- Build solid working relationships. Internally and externally, people trust you, and you’re easy to collaborate with.
- Think ahead. You pay attention to what you’re hearing in the market and adjust your approach before you fall behind.
What You Must Have
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- 5+ years of quota-carrying sales experience
- 1+ year(s) experience selling either asset management or land management/parcel management software solutions
- A home base in California and willingness to travel throughout your eight-state regional territory as needed to visit customers and prospects
- A commitment mindset demonstrated by no more than two to three jobs in the last 10 years
What We Offer in Return
- Competitive salary based on qualifications, experience, and geographical location, plus annual performance-based bonus
- Benefits package that includes medical and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, and flexible vacation and sick days and company holidays
